The Urvarasa Model Farm, located on one acre of Kolte family land in Pisarve, was revived after lying fallow for six years. Madhavi Kolte and Shivraj established it in 2024 to showcase plant-based, animal-free natural farming. One acre of a 24-acre farm supports an orphanage for underprivileged children in drought-prone Maharashtra. Water is sourced from a well and an artificial pond filled by the Bhandhara Dam. The farm is tended by the children and meets the food needs of 74 residents. It is currently transitioning to natural, plant-based practices under Urvarasa guidelines. This effort aims to build self-reliance and sustainability within the orphanage.

- Recruit 250 more farms that will abandon chemical-based and/or animal agriculture and transition to Urvarasa’s veganic, natural farming practices.
- Establish a direct and privileged farmer-consumer network by organising regular Urvarasa farmers’ events to promote products and to sell them directly to consumers, thus ensuring farmers a fair price throughout the year.
- Generate local/national awareness and inspire policy level changes
- Facilitate research through MoUs and research projects with interested institutions.
- Document and create a knowledge bank in the form of easy-to-understand manuals in local languages, and write an India-centred stockfree farming guide.
- Conduct training/ workshops for farmers on the model farm.
- Create a veganic seed exchange network for Urvarasa farmers.
- Create sustainable, safe and dignified livelihood options for the local population through farm labour, processing & transformation of farm products.
Our Mission
Urvarasa empowers small and marginal farmers by assisting them in their transition to natural, stock-free farming practices, which is better not only for ecosystems, water efficiency and soil health (in other words, the longevity of their agricultural land), but also for economic sustainability and for the production of nutritious, chemical-free produce.

Our farmers learn the value of the conscious, nurturing and holistic approach embodied in the charter. Currently, we work with a select group of farmers in Maharashtra to ease coordination and work on establishing suitable and reliable distribution channels for their produce.
Support Us
The Government provides hefty subsidies to animal-based farming systems. At the same time, animal products contribute to only a tiny percentage of our dietary requirements and nutrition, all the while raising seriously damaging health and environmental concerns.
We aim to build a sustainable agricultural model that ensures that the needs of a growing population are met, with a clear focus on a whole-foods plant-based diet, which is better for both our health and our planet.
